Silvial® is a synthetic ingredient used primarily to replace regulated aldehydes such as Lilial® or Lyral® in lily of the valley fragrance compositions. It imparts a strong, fresh floral note to fragrances. Silvial® is a fully synthetic ingredient that does not occur in nature and is not extracted from any plant.
Its chemical structure is similar to other synthetic molecules such as Lilial®, Cyclamen Aldehyde®, Bourgeonal® and Florhydral®. All these molecules share a light floral scent, with each offering a different nuance: Cyclamen Aldehyde® leans more marine, Bourgeonal® is greener and Florhydral® carries a fruitier character.
Silvial® was developed by Rhône-Poulenc and patented under patent N°1.430.164 (FR), published on November 13, 1964.
