Description
Isoeugenol is an ingredient that adds a sweet and spicy scent to fragrances. It is a key component in the perfume industry, offering a distinctive note that enriches fragrance compositions. Isoeugenol can come from natural sources such as ylang-ylang flowers, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, oregano, thyme, pimento, and turmeric. Alternatively, it can be produced through synthetic manufacturing in a laboratory. Perfumers also use isoeugenol as a raw material to produce vanillin, the main component that gives the characteristic vanilla aroma.

Regulatory information
Isoeugenol is a fully evaluated and frequently used fragrance ingredient. European Union scientific bodies have recognized it as a potential skin sensitizer. This means it can cause skin reactions, such as redness, rashes, or itching. These reactions can be difficult to pinpoint and are equally likely to be caused by natural or synthetic ingredients. The RIFM organization has completed a formal safety assessment and concluded that isoeugenol is a moderate skin sensitizer. Based on these findings, IFRA has established standards for acceptable isoeugenol concentrations in various consumer products. In an extensive patch test study, 98.7% of participants reported no skin reaction to isoeugenol.
