Ylang ylang, whose scent p-tolyl acetate mimics, is a key ingredient in some of the world's most famous fragrances, including iconic Chanel No. 5.
Laboratory production of ingredients such as p-tolyl acetate reduces pressure on natural ecosystems, as producing 1 kilo of natural ylang ylang oil requires approximately 75 kilos of flowers.
p-Tolyl acetate changes character depending on its concentration - at low concentrations it offers subtle floral notes, while at higher concentrations it brings out more intense, spicy facets of its aroma.
