Hexanoic acid is one of the key components that give aged cheeses their characteristic aroma. Without it, many favorite cheeses would have a completely different flavor profile!
In brewing, hops containing natural hexanoic acid contribute to the complex flavor notes of many beer styles, adding depth and character to the final product.
Perfumers use hexanoic acid in extremely small amounts to create realistic fragrances. Although it can have a strong odor on its own, when used skillfully, it adds authenticity and depth to fragrance compositions.
