Methyl jasmonate acts as a plant communication system. When a plant faces insect attacks, it releases this compound into the air to warn neighboring plants to activate their defense mechanisms.
Much like natural jasmine, the scent of methyl jasmonate becomes more intense during the night. This property makes it particularly popular in fragrances intended for evening wear.
In nature, methyl jasmonate functions as a plant hormone that regulates various plant growth functions, ranging from fruit ripening to resistance against environmental stresses.
