The word "myron", from which myrtle derives its name, served as the root for many fragrance-related words in ancient Greek, including "myropoleio", which meant perfume shop.
In ancient Greece, myrtle was a sacred plant dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite and was frequently used in wedding ceremonies as a symbol of love and fertility.
Despite differences in appearance, myrtle shares biochemical characteristics with eucalyptus and clove, as all contain essential oils with antimicrobial properties.
