The name "frangipani" has an unexpected origin: it comes from the Italian glover and perfumer Muzio Frangipani, who created an aromatic recipe for gloves that became so popular that the flower with a similar scent was named after him!
Frangipani serves as a cultural symbol across many tropical regions. In Bali, Indonesia, its flowers are used daily in religious offerings, while in Polynesia, women traditionally wear them in their hair.
Frangipani blossoms typically feature five propeller-shaped petals and release their strongest fragrance at night, an adaptation that evolved to attract nocturnal pollinators such as moths.
