Dual nature: While 2-nonanone is used for its pleasant scent in fragrances, certain insects use it as an alarm pheromone to warn other colony members of danger.
2-nonanone belongs to the methyl ketone family, which contributes to the aroma of many everyday foods, from cheese to fruit.
In perfumery, 2-nonanone acts as an aroma enhancer, complementing and highlighting other ingredients to create richer and more complex fragrance compositions.
