Description
Anethole is an ingredient derived from essential oils, responsible for the characteristic licorice scent found in anise and fennel. This aromatic compound occurs naturally in traditional alcoholic beverages such as ouzo and absinthe. Perfumers often create a laboratory version, identical to the natural one, to ensure consistent quality and preserve natural resources. The laboratory version can be produced from various sources, including renewable raw materials, offering a sustainable alternative.

Regulatory information
The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) has recently completed an extensive safety assessment for anethole, which is awaiting review by the Expert Panel for Fragrance Safety and publication in a scientific journal. In most European countries, anethole must be listed on the labels of detergents, cleaners, and cosmetic products to inform consumers who may have an allergy. In California, disclosure on the product website is required for detergents and cleaners.
