Additional information
Decyl acetate is one of the components that give citrus fruits their characteristic scent. When you cut into a grapefruit and notice that refreshing aroma, part of it is due to decyl acetate.
The chemical structure of decyl acetate features a ten-carbon chain (decyl) bonded to an acetate group, which gives it its distinct clean scent. This structure is what makes it so popular in fragrances with fresh notes.
The laboratory production of decyl acetate contributes significantly to the sustainability of the fragrance industry by reducing the need for extensive harvesting of natural resources. Producing one kilogram of natural extract would require a multiple of that amount in raw materials.
