Isobornyl acetate has a long history in traditional perfumery, where it was used to impart forest notes to classic fragrance compositions, particularly in men's fragrances and nature-inspired colognes.
The molecular structure of the ingredient is related to that of camphor, explaining the characteristic aromatic properties it provides, which are a combination of coolness and depth that is difficult to achieve with other ingredients.
The sustainable production of laboratory-derived isobornyl acetate represents an example of green chemistry in the fragrance industry, as it reduces pressure on natural ecosystems and can utilize by-products from other industrial processes.
The IFRA Standards form an industry self-regulatory system. They may prohibit or restrict the use of particular fragrance ingredients, or set specifications, according to end use. The status below reflects the IFRA data recorded for this ingredient. It is not a product certification and does not replace applicable law or assessment of the finished product.
