Muguet Aldehyde is a synthetic ingredient used primarily to impart floral-aldehydic and green notes to lily of the valley fragrances. It delivers a characteristic aldehydic impact and is widely used in functional perfumery. This ingredient is fully synthetic and does not occur in nature.
Olfactorily, Muguet Aldehyde shares a molecular structure and scent similar to Citronellol, but with more metallic and citrus nuances that bring it close to Geraniol. For practical purposes, this ingredient is usually diluted to 50% in DEP (diethyl phthalate), which makes it easier to handle and tempers its odor strength. It can also be found diluted in TEC (triethyl citrate) or BB (benzyl benzoate).
The name Muguet comes from the French word for lily of the valley, reflecting the purpose behind this synthetic ingredient: to recreate the scent of this beloved flower.
Despite their beauty and strong fragrance, lilies of the valley do not yield essential oils that can be extracted for perfumery, making synthetic ingredients like Muguet Aldehyde essential for reproducing their scent.
The metallic and citrus notes of Muguet Aldehyde create the fresh, dewy sensation that characterizes the scent of lily of the valley, as if covered in morning dew.
