Ethyl butyrate features a distinctive pineapple and fruit juice aroma, enriched with notes of cognac and butterscotch. It is a natural compound found in citrus fruits, cheeses and whiskey, where it imparts characteristic aromatic notes.
Fragrance creators often produce a nature-identical version in laboratories to ensure consistent quality and help preserve global natural resources. Its laboratory production can derive from various sources, including renewable materials, making it a sustainable choice for the fragrance industry.
Ethyl butyrate is widely used in the food industry as a flavoring additive, serving as one of the most common ingredients for adding fruity aromas to sweets, soft drinks and processed foods.
The human nose has extremely sensitive detection for ethyl butyrate, able to spot it at concentrations of just a few parts per billion in the air, which explains why even a small amount can impart an intense aroma to a product.
Although commonly associated with the scent of pineapple, ethyl butyrate occurs naturally in more than 20 different natural sources, from apples and strawberries to cheeses and alcoholic beverages, demonstrating its wide presence in nature.
