Despite its name, the "magnolia" used in perfumery is not actually a magnolia. It comes from a tree of the Michelia genus, creating an interesting botanical twist in the fragrance world.
In traditional Asian medicine, various parts of the tree were used for therapeutic purposes long before its scent was harnessed for perfumery.
This ingredient shares the same genus as exotic champaca absolute, one of the most treasured and costly items in a perfumer's palette, forming a close botanical tie between the two fragrances.
