Description
Nerol is widely used in perfumery to build rose, geranium, orange blossom, and verbena notes. Its name comes from its presence in neroli essential oil, which is extracted from bitter orange blossoms. Nerol occurs in many natural products, frequently alongside geraniol. It can also be extracted from clary sage essential oil and lemongrass essential oil. From an olfactory perspective, nerol features a more metallic aroma compared to geraniol, adding a distinct dimension to fragrance compositions. Pure nerol is known for good skin tolerance.

Additional information
- Nerol owes its name to the Princess of Nerola, who popularized the bitter orange blossom scent in the 17th century.
- Nerol and geraniol are chemical isomers with the same molecular formula but different structures, which explains their distinct scents.
- Pure nerol is skin-friendly, making it an ideal choice for sensitive skin when it contains no traces of geraniol.
