Angelica was considered a "gift from angels" during the Middle Ages, as people believed it protected against the plague and other diseases. One myth tells of an angel revealing its healing properties to a monk in a dream!
The scent of angelica varies so much depending on the plant part that it seems to come from entirely different plants: the root has earthy, musky notes, the leaves are fresh and green, and the seeds offer spicy, floral nuances.
The natural musks contained in angelica are extremely rare in the plant kingdom, making it one of the few plants capable of providing these prized aromatic notes without animal derivatives.
The IFRA Standards form an industry self-regulatory system. They may prohibit or restrict the use of particular fragrance ingredients, or set specifications, according to end use. The status below reflects the IFRA data recorded for this ingredient. It is not a product certification and does not replace applicable law or assessment of the finished product.
IFRA categories group end uses by the type and level of exposure. A restriction or maximum concentration applies only to the stated category and does not automatically apply to another use. Check the related IFRA document for the applicable Standard version and its full conditions.
