Description
Alpha-pinene features a fresh and invigorating scent with earthy pine resin notes. It ranks among the most widespread aromatic compounds in nature, with natural sources including pine trees, cardamom, cinnamon, and coriander. Fragrance creators often choose to craft nature-identical versions in the laboratory, ensuring consistent quality while helping preserve natural resources. This ingredient has two chemical relatives with a similar scent and flavor profile (l-alpha-pinene and d-alpha-pinene). The lab-produced version can derive from various sources, including renewable materials.

Regulatory information
The safety of alpha-pinene, along with l-alpha-pinene and d-alpha-pinene, has been evaluated by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM), and a peer-reviewed safety assessment has been published. Skin sensitization potential was found in a small percentage of individuals. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has established safe-use standards for alpha-pinene in home and personal care products. Although an ingredient may carry the potential for skin sensitization, most people will not be affected. Every person's skin is different, so consult a healthcare professional with any questions.
