Applelide® is a synthetic musk created in 2002 and used in perfumery for its aroma and its fixative properties. It adds depth to fruity notes and enriches floral-fruity fragrances with a distinct apple note. Applelide® does not occur in nature and is produced exclusively through synthetic methods.
Due to its chemical instability, caused by its two ester functional groups, it is often stabilized before use in fragrances. Applelide® is related to Helvetolide® in its fruity and green apple aroma, with the difference that Helvetolide® has more of a pear character.
Applelide® is a relatively new ingredient in the world of fragrances, having been created only in 2002, unlike many traditional perfumery ingredients used for centuries.
Despite its apple-referencing name, Applelide® is entirely synthetic and contains no natural apple ingredients. Its ability to mimic the fruity apple note is the result of advanced chemical synthesis.
Perfumers often combine Applelide® with Helvetolide® to create complex fruity profiles in fragrances, taking advantage of the apple notes of the former and the pear notes of the latter.
