Regulatory information
dl-Citronellol is a well-evaluated and widely used fragrance ingredient. It has been recognized by European Union scientific bodies as a potential skin sensitizer, meaning it may cause a skin reaction (such as redness, rash, or itching). However, according to an official safety assessment by RIFM, dl-Citronellol is considered an extremely weak skin sensitizer. Notably, in a large study, 99.6 percent of participants reported no reaction to dl-Citronellol. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has established standards for acceptable concentrations of dl-Citronellol in various consumer products.
