Orris root requires 3 to 5 years of aging before developing its characteristic scent. During this period, the rhizomes undergo a natural process that allows alpha-irone to form.
Orris butter was once one of the most precious perfumery ingredients, used in the fragrances of European royal courts since the 16th century. Even today, it remains one of the most expensive natural fragrance materials.
The presence of alpha-irone in raspberries creates an unexpected link between the fruit and the iris flower. This is why certain fragrances with raspberry notes can carry a subtle floral undertone, and vice versa.
