Damascone-Beta® is an important perfumery ingredient used to bring a multidimensional character to fruity and peach notes. It imparts a distinct ripe apple impression to fragrance compositions, enriching their complexity. In nature, it occurs in extremely small quantities in Damask Rose Absolute, as well as in the aroma of certain tea and tobacco varieties.
The discovery of rose ketones in 1965 by chemists P. Ruzicka and Dr. Demole was a milestone for the fragrance industry, paving the way for the synthesis of an entire category of crucial molecules. Damascone-Beta® differs from Damascone-Alpha® in that it is more fruity and sweet, whereas the latter is characterized by earthier and more intense notes.
Due to certain usage restrictions, it is often replaced by Verdox®, a molecule with similar properties that is not subject to equivalent restrictions.
