Lichens are one of nature's most successful symbiotic organisms, with the fungus providing structure and protection while the algae produces food through photosynthesis, a partnership that has survived for millions of years.
Tree Moss is a core component of classic chypre fragrances since the early 20th century, contributing the characteristic earthy, woody base that defines this iconic fragrance family.
Lichens act as natural bioindicators of air quality because they are extremely sensitive to atmospheric pollution. The presence of healthy lichens in an area indicates clean air, while their absence may point to environmental issues.
The IFRA Standards form an industry self-regulatory system. They may prohibit or restrict the use of particular fragrance ingredients, or set specifications, according to end use. The status below reflects the IFRA data recorded for this ingredient. It is not a product certification and does not replace applicable law or assessment of the finished product.
IFRA categories group end uses by the type and level of exposure. A restriction or maximum concentration applies only to the stated category and does not automatically apply to another use. Check the related IFRA document for the applicable Standard version and its full conditions.
