When enjoying a beer, part of the aromatic experience is due to the Isoamyl benzoate naturally present in it. This ingredient contributes to the subtle fruity notes that balance the characteristic bitterness of beer.
Creating Isoamyl benzoate in the laboratory is an example of sustainable perfumery. Producing 1 kg of certain natural essential oils can require hundreds of kilograms of plant material, whereas laboratory synthesis requires significantly fewer resources.
Our sense of smell perceives Isoamyl benzoate differently depending on its concentration. At low concentrations, it offers a subtle sweetness, while at higher concentrations, its fruity and green notes become more prominent.
