Description
Cinnamyl nitrile is a fragrance ingredient with a spicy and sweet aroma that strongly recalls fresh cinnamon. It also offers subtle notes of cumin and cassia, creating a complex olfactory experience. Many perfumers note that this ingredient has an oily or fatty dimension, which gives it a rich, lasting impact when used in perfumes and aromatherapy products. Cinnamyl nitrile is produced in laboratories using various synthesis methods. Notably, fragrance manufacturers are increasingly using renewable raw materials for its production, helping to conserve the planet's natural resources.
Additional information
- Cinnamyl nitrile is a synthetic alternative that reduces the need for natural cinnamon, protecting natural resources.
- It is characterized by impressive versatility, as it is used in everything from luxury perfumes to everyday products, imparting cinnamon notes.

Regulatory information
The safety of cinnamyl nitrile has been evaluated by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) and a relevant scientific study has been published. It has been found that this ingredient may cause skin sensitization in a small percentage of individuals. This means that, in a limited number of people, repeated contact at a high concentration may cause a temporary reaction, such as redness, rashes or skin itching. To prevent such reactions, RIFM has established maximum acceptable concentration levels, and the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has established safe use standards for cinnamyl nitrile in household and personal care products.
