Although tetrahydromyrcenol is found in pepper, its aroma is not spicy at all! Instead, it offers an unexpected citrus and floral note, proving that nature hides surprises in the most unexpected sources.
The laboratory creation of this ingredient is an example of sustainability in the fragrance industry. Producing a sufficient quantity from natural sources would require massive amounts of pepper, which would be economically unviable and environmentally damaging.
Nature-identical ingredients such as tetrahydromyrcenol are chemically indistinguishable from their natural counterparts. Even the most advanced laboratory analyses cannot tell the difference between the molecule produced in the lab and the one found in pepper!
