Ravintsara oil is an essential oil used primarily in the top notes of fragrances. It is especially useful for its cool facets due to its high eucalyptol content. In perfumery, it is used in fresh or cologne compositions as well as to enhance spicy accords.
It is worth noting that in perfumery, Ravintsara oil is rarely used because it is often replaced by its main component: eucalyptol. However, it is widely used in aromatherapy for its multiple properties.
There is frequent confusion between Ravensara oil (Ravensara aromatica) and Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora CT Cineol). This confusion is due to the phonetic similarity of the names, the similar botanical characteristics of the trees, and the large number of chemotypes found in the two species. Ravintsara belongs to the Lauraceae family and the Cinnamomum genus.
