Tropical secret: Cis-5-octenoate is one of the key molecules that give mango and pineapple their characteristic scent. When you smell a fragrance with tropical notes, you are likely recognizing this exact ingredient!
Molecular twin: Perfume scientists can accurately replicate the molecular structure of natural cis-5-octenoate in the laboratory. This means the synthetic version is chemically identical to the natural one, offering the exact same aromatic experience.
Green chemistry: Laboratory production of one kilogram of cis-5-octenoate requires significantly fewer resources than extracting it from natural sources. To collect the same quantity from natural sources would require hundreds of kilograms of fruit!
