Description
Carbomer is a large molecule made of repeating subunits (an acrylic acid polymer) that turns liquids into a pleasant gel formula. Achieving this thickening typically requires neutralization with a base such as sodium hydroxide. The result is a viscous, clear gel that delivers a lightweight, non-sticky skin feel. Carbomer is a common and widely used ingredient in the cosmetics industry because it significantly improves product texture and stability. It is typically used at a concentration of 1 percent or less in most formulations.
Additional information
- Carbomer is a key ingredient for creating stable, aesthetically pleasing gel textures in cosmetics, which improves the user experience.
- It helps evenly disperse insoluble ingredients within a product, enhancing overall performance and consistency.
- It is known for its strong thickening properties even at low concentrations, helping give products a smooth, refined feel.
