Botanical diversity: p-Menth-8-en-2-one is one of the few aromatic ingredients found in both mint family plants and citrus fruits, despite their different botanical origins.
The molecular structure of p-Menth-8-en-2-one is responsible for its dual scent character, where the "menth" part of the molecule imparts the cool notes and the "en-2-one" group contributes to the warmer, sweeter nuances.
The laboratory production of p-Menth-8-en-2-one has a significant environmental impact: producing 1 kilo of natural extract would require vast quantities of plant matter, whereas synthetic production drastically reduces the ecological footprint.
