Black currant buds are harvested in early spring before they bloom, when the concentration of aromatic compounds is at its peak, ensuring a rich scent profile in the finished extract.
Black currant bud extract has been used in perfumery since the early 20th century, when French perfumers discovered its unique properties and incorporated it into classic compositions that remain popular today.
Its characteristic scent comes from specific compounds called terpenes found in the plant's buds and leaves. These compounds act as a natural defense mechanism for the plant, while in perfumery they provide the complex notes that make the ingredient so sought after.
