Description
Cyclamen aldehyde is an aromatic ingredient widely used since the 1920s to create fresh, floral fragrances in cosmetics and personal care products. It is known for imparting a distinct green, crisp note reminiscent of muguet (lily of the valley), enriching scent compositions with a clean and refreshing feel. This ingredient is synthetically produced in a laboratory through advanced methods, and in recent years emphasis has been placed on using renewable raw materials for its production to support sustainability.
Additional information
- Despite its name, cyclamen aldehyde is not extracted from the cyclamen flower, but is a synthetic substance created to mimic certain floral notes.
- Cyclamen aldehyde is particularly important for creating fragrances with lily of the valley (muguet) notes, as the natural scent of this flower is almost impossible to extract using conventional methods.
- The discovery and use of cyclamen aldehyde marked a major milestone in 20th-century perfumery history, allowing perfumers to compose new, innovative floral notes that did not exist previously.

Regulatory information
The safety of cyclamen aldehyde has been evaluated by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) and a relevant scientific study has been published. It has been found that there is a potential for skin sensitization in a small percentage of individuals. This means that in a limited number of people, repeated contact may cause a temporary reaction, such as redness, rashes or itching. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has established safe use standards for cyclamen aldehyde in household and personal care products at levels much lower than those that could cause a reaction in the majority of the population.
