The aroma of rum: Ethyl benzoate is one of the key components that give rum its characteristic aroma, contributing to its sweet, fruity notes.
As tropical fruits ripen, they naturally produce more ethyl benzoate, which contributes to their intense aroma and signals when they are ready to be eaten.
Laboratory-produced ethyl benzoate is chemically identical to its natural version, meaning our body and nose cannot tell any difference between the two.
