The molecular structure of 2,6-dimethyl-2-heptanol, with two methyl groups at the 2 and 6 positions, accounts for the balance between the floral and woody notes that characterize its scent.
This ingredient serves as an example of sustainable perfumery, since its laboratory production from renewable sources reduces pressure on natural reserves of roses and exotic woods traditionally used in fragrance creation.
Perfumers often use 2,6-dimethyl-2-heptanol in fragrance combinations featuring vanilla, patchouli, or musk notes, as it helps extend scent longevity and adds depth to the overall composition.
The IFRA Standards form an industry self-regulatory system. They may prohibit or restrict the use of particular fragrance ingredients, or set specifications, according to end use. The status below reflects the IFRA data recorded for this ingredient. It is not a product certification and does not replace applicable law or assessment of the finished product.
