Description
Additional information
The term kaffir is considered offensive in certain parts of the world, particularly in South Africa. Because of this, the term makrut lime is gaining ground as the preferred name in international gastronomy and perfumery.
Despite the oil coming from the fruit, the leaves of the kaffir lime tree are used far more widely in cooking than the fruit itself, especially in Southeast Asian cuisine, where they lend a characteristic aroma to soups and curries.
In the traditional medicine of various Asian cultures, kaffir lime is used to promote oral hygiene, as a natural insect repellent, and for hair care.
