Description
Alpha-Hexylcinnamaldehyde is a widely used fragrance ingredient known for its distinctive, warm, and slightly spicy floral scent reminiscent of jasmine. Although it is primarily produced synthetically today for stability and cost reasons, this aromatic compound also occurs naturally in chamomile essential oil, contributing to its calming aroma. Alpha-Hexylcinnamaldehyde is a key component in many fragrances, particularly those aiming to impart a subtle, floral, and sensual note to their compositions. Its versatility, thanks to its dual origin, makes it valuable for creating a variety of scented products.

Alpha-Hexylcinnamaldehyde has been identified by European Union scientific bodies as a potential skin sensitizer. This means there is a possibility it may cause skin reactions such as redness, rashes, or itching. These reactions can be difficult to predict due to the uniqueness of each individual immune system. It is worth noting that such reactions can be caused equally by natural and synthetic ingredients. In an extensive study, 99.9% of participants reported no reaction to alpha-Hexylcinnamaldehyde. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has established standards for acceptable concentrations of this substance in consumer products.
