The term "petitgrain" comes from French and means "little grain", originally referring to the small, unripe fruits from which the oil was once extracted.
Unlike standard citrus essential oils extracted from fruit peels, petitgrain oil is obtained from the leaves and small twigs of the tree.
The name "mandarin" has historical roots in China, originating from the officials of the Chinese Imperial Court (the Mandarins), whose orange robes resembled the color of the fruit.
