Lovage leaves showing the characteristic white markings left by Liriomyza larvae must be removed regularly to protect the plant, presenting a specific challenge for herb growers.
Lovage has been used for centuries in European cooking as an aromatic herb with a flavor reminiscent of celery and parsley combined, and in medieval Europe it was considered a herb of love and good fortune.
The scent of lovage has such a strong character that in perfumery it is used in very small quantities, adding depth and complexity to fragrance compositions without overpowering them.
