Amyl formate is one of the key compounds giving bananas their characteristic scent, though it also occurs naturally in other fruits. This is why many people immediately recognize it as a banana fragrance.
Besides its use in perfumery, amyl formate is widely used as a food flavoring agent to create fruity flavors in sweets, soft drinks, and other food products.
The concentration of amyl formate in wild strawberries contributes to their more intense aroma compared to cultivated varieties. This is one of the reasons wild strawberries have a richer and more complex scent than those typically found in supermarkets.
