Description
Also known as BHT, Butylated Hydroxytoluene is a potent synthetic antioxidant widely used in perfumery and cosmetics. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder with a very faint, slightly phenolic scent. The primary function of Butylated Hydroxytoluene is to protect sensitive ingredients from oxidation, significantly extending the shelf life of fragrances and cosmetic formulations. It is typically used at low concentrations around 0.1% in oils, particularly citrus oils, aldehydes, and other oxygen-sensitive materials, preserving their aromatic quality and slowing color changes.
